Family Ties started as an idea at the end of 2017. Before it was called “Family Ties” the focus was to spotlight the individual members of Crazy Hood Productions, so they could tell their Crazy Hood Story. As you’ve heard in Season 1 I’ve had the opportunity to interview the entire crew. They’ve shared with us personal family stories, childhood memories and moments in their lives that they hold near to their hearts.
We’ve also learned how rap music became the soundtrack to their life. Rap became the common denominator that linked the entire crew. Music from N.W.A, Eric B & Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Public Enemy, Biz Markie, Slick Rick, Run-DMC and more. This was more than music. It was deeper than rap. The music opened their minds, and sharpened their thoughts. This was the music that created the parental advisory sticker. This was the music that scared our nation & terrified our parents. Rap was given a bad rep because of its authenticity. From talking about police brutality, drugs, violence, & gangs. To spreading knowledge, wisdom, religion, social & political views, it was music that gave voice to the youth on a much large scale; it reported the truth.
Loyalty is a virtue that’s hard to find, but Crazy Hood Productions defines it. As they celebrate 25 years in existence, their friendship goes beyond the year their company first incorporated. And as you’ve heard in the podcast this is a story of a brotherhood that was birthed in Miami.
Their legacy goes beyond Dade County and their impact on the Miami Hip Hop Scene has been recognized on a global level. When DJ EFN created Crazy Hood Productions, his purpose was to contribute to the culture of hip-hop. In the beginning he didn’t know how he would do this, he just knew that he wanted to; somehow and in someway. Together, Crazy Hood Productions is the contribution to hip-hop that DJ EFN always set out to achieve.
