Kendrick Lamar Freestyle Over 2Pac’s “Hit ‘Em Up” | WATCH NOW
Watch Kendrick Lamar freestyle over 2Pac’s “Hit ‘Em Up,” talk conspiracy theories and more in new interview.
Kendrick Lamar‘s DAMN. will be celebrating its one-year anniversary tomorrow (April 17), and in honor of the critically-acclaimed release, radio host Big Boy has released a video of Lamar free styling over 2Pac‘s “Hit ‘Em Up.”
The brief clip, which was posted on Big Boy’s Neighborhood Instagram account, finds the Compton rapper freestyling over the 1996 diss track featuring the Outlawz. As Complex notes, the freestyle seems to be from Lamar’s appearance on Big Boy TV back in 2017.
During Coachella this weekend, Lamar was brought out as a surprise guest for SZA and Vince Staples‘ performances at the California music festival. For the former, Lamar performed the standout Ctrl track “Doves in the Wind,” as well as their Black Panther: The Album collab “All the Stars.” For the latter, the TDE rapper performed “Yeah Right” from Staples’ 2017 album Big Fish Theory.
Recently, DJ Critical Hype released a mashup project The DAMN. Chronic, which blends Lamar’s vocals with Dr. Dre‘s production.
“I really enjoyed splicing elements of the original Dr. Dre songs and productions with Kendrick vocals in a way that seemed relevant or themes that went together,” Hype said to Genius about creating the project, adding that he spent four or five months making a capellas for it. However, he had to scrap several mixes that he was working on for the release, including mashups of “XXX.,” “Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst,” and “untitled 02 | 06.23.2014.”
