CookBook releases “The Jason Soto EP” | Stream Now

Early in 2019 we sat down with CookBook and chopped it up about hip-hop, his musical journey and his project  “Jason Soto Was Here”. Recently we sat down with CookBook again to discuss his latest EP.

While the decade came to a close, it’s important to point out that CookBook ended the 2010’s on a high note! With the evolution of podcasts – CookBook started podcasting with the creation of his pod called “Really Tho?” and eventually linking up with Hip-Hop legend MURS as they created the super popular and fan favorite “Felipe’s Garage” in 2018.

As the podcast went through changes in early 2019, it also allowed us to get to know the new Mechanics of Felipe’s GarageKing Ductor, Nesto & E.Green. Alongside CookBook the crew continues to put out great content, becoming the official podcast of Hiero Day Weekend and positioning themselves for a great 2020.

If all that wasn’t enough CookBook also dropped his latest LP – Jason Soto Was Here. Early 2019 we chopped it up with CookBook about his album. You can check out our interview here, as he was featured in Episode 4 of HOODtalks.

Ending the new year with a new project – CookBook recently released his latest project The Jason Soto EP. The EP includes four previously unreleased songs as well as 3 remixes of songs from Jason Soto Was Here.

“I had songs I’d recorded for Jason Soto Was Here that didn’t make the album, but were really great too.” CookBook says; “I wanted those to see the light of day in some way. So I thought of the remix idea to get the fans involved & make it more fun than just dropping the unreleased songs on their own.” – CookBook

Jae Havana: Who are some of the producers and artists you worked with and how did you go about selecting them for the project?

CookBook: I produced 3, Ariano produced one & the rest were winners of the remix contest I had on my podcast, “Felipe’s Garage” Joey the Jerk is my old homie from LA Symphony. He was an obvious choice for “It’s Jerk Time!” & I think Ric Scales is one if the best doing it on the west coast. Had to get him on that. I love collaborating with Zzay. I think our singing voices mesh so well.

Jae Havana: For someone who is being introduced to your music for the first time; which song from The Jason Soto EP would you recommend them to listen first?

CookBook: Well, It’s Jerk Time is my favorite, but I really like the way I spit on Don’t Lose Your Soul. So…one of those.

Jae Havana: For someone who is being introduced to your music for the first time; which of your projects would you recommend them to listen to first?

CookBook: “Jason Soto Was Here” for sure!

Jae Havana: Why would you recommend Jason Soto Was here?

CookBook: I think it’s the culmination of everything that I’m capable of & wanted to do in one album. I know that’s putting a lot on it, & I also know that I can always do more, but I feel i hit every goal I set for that album, and it best represents the different sides of me…rapping, producing, singing, piano playing, humor, concepts, different styles…on & on. I want you to expect NOTHING from me in 2020! …don’t mean I ain’t workin, tho!
