ANDRE 3000 | “Look Ma No Hands” (Mother’s Day EP) | STREAM NOW

Man, André 3000 continues to amaze me with how he just comes out of left field with some new work. As I wipe the sleep from my eyes, I look at my alerts and see that the other half of the famed hip-hop duo, OutKast, dropped two surprise singles for Mother’s Day.

“Me & My (To Bury Your Parents)” and “Look Ma No Hands” were a part of an EP named Look Ma No Hands and can be heard below or over at Soundcloud.

The first track, “Me & My (To Bury Your Parents),” finds André trotting out his charismatic singing for to pay tribute to his late mother Sharon Benjamin Hodo who passed away on May 28, 2013. Reminiscing about childhood memories, 3-Stacks harmonizes over some somber, yet melodious keys played by Kevin Kendrick.

On the title track, “Look Ma No Hands,” Dré plays the bass clarinet alongside James Blake on the keys as this vocal-less track runs for 17 minutes, and serves as a jazz-inspired effort to honor his parents whom both passed away.

The Look Ma No Hands surprise effort marks the first time in years where we’ve heard newly recorded music from André 3000. After seeing him at Big Boi’s son Bamboo’s high school graduation, to now hear him with these tracks could mean that we might get a full-length project from the reclusive Dungeon Family member, yes?

Certainly, we hope so.

In addition to releasing the surprise new music, André 3000 rejoined the world of Instagram, uploading a picture of him and his mom (which you can see above) with the caption, “I love you mom,” as his first post.

Listen to both tracks above and below, share your thoughts on whether this marks André full-time return to music, and wish your own madre a “Happy Mother’s Day” from us.
