Should people wish to gain backlinks then they really should at least show the sense to write a related and thorough comment. All comment spam will do is potentially damage your backlinking attempts and creates useless links. The only way to be a success is to make friends with fellow bloggers who have blogs of a similar niche and hopefully generate actual targeted traffic by making a related response. You never know future commenters might even give this some thought prior to posting
